Assessments

Assessments let you evaluate candidates with written tests and questionnaires — for example a skills test, a situational-judgement questionnaire, or a short-answer exercise — as part of your hiring workflow.

Creating a written assessment

  1. Open the assessment builder (from a vacancy's workflow, the Interview/Assessment area, or your assessment templates).
  2. Create a new written assessment and give it a name.
  3. Add questions — multiple choice, short answer, or long answer.
  4. Set options such as a time limit, passing score, and instructions for the candidate.
  5. Save the assessment so it can be assigned to candidates.

Assigning an assessment

Assign an assessment to a candidate as a stage in your workflow, or send it directly. The candidate receives a link to complete it.

The candidate experience

When a candidate takes the assessment they see:

  • Instructions and any rules (e.g. no going back, single attempt).
  • A timer, if you set a time limit.
  • The questions, one at a time or as a set.

Their responses (and score, for auto-graded questions) are recorded against their application.

Reviewing results

Assessment results appear on the candidate's application, alongside interview feedback and the AI match, so you can factor them into your decision.

tip

Use a short knockout assessment early to screen large applicant pools, and reserve longer exercises for shortlisted candidates.
